Hopewell Girls Volleyball Open 2024 Season with Sweep of Central Valley
On Monday evening, the Hopewell Lady Vikings volleyball team made the short trip down Broadhead Road to take on the Central Valley Warriors.
After competing in the couple scrimmages, this was the first official match of the season for Hopewell and head coach Terry Borkovic, who started his 35th season as head coach.
Over the years, this matchup between Hopewell and Central Valley has developed into an intense rivalry.
It’s a bit different this season as Central Valley has moved up into the AAA classification, while Hopewell remains in AA. Because of this change, this will be the only matchup between these schools this season.
Hopewell believes they’ll have a solid team this season and in the future and last night, they got things started with a convincing sweep over Central Valley.
Hopewell fell down 4-1 early in the first set but from that moment on, they were dominant. Thanks to strong serving and great defense, Hopewell went on to win the first set, 25-17.
The Lady Vikings were in total control in the second set as they cruised to a 25-9 win.
In the 3rd set, the Hopewell squad used the same formula for success- strong serving, outstanding hitting, and an excellent backcourt defense. The final set score was 25-15.
The Lady Vikings were led by outstanding play of seniors, Jordan Siriani, Reese Murray, Philomena Catanzarite, and Alyssa Spang.
Hopewell Stat Leaders:
Jordan Siriani- 7 kills and 7 aces.
Philomena Catanzarite- 7 digs and 2.25 passing average.
Alyssa Spang- 2 blocks.
Brianna Indereist- .333 hitting efficiency.

If your schedule permits, come and support the team. These girls play exciting volleyball!!
