Hopewell 8th QB James Armstrong Recaps Day at Pitt Camp

Pat Narduzzi and his coaching staff observed a ton of talent this morning at their first prospect camp of the month.

Players from various grade levels were showing off their skills in the hopes of catching someone’s eye and making a positive impression.

One of the youngest players on the South Side was Hopewell 8th grade quarterback James ‘Boo Boo’ Armstrong.

For Armstrong, this was his first prospect camp, but it certainly won’t be his last as she’s scheduled to travel to State College later this month to participate in one at Penn State.

It’s not a question of if a Power Four offer for Armstrong comes, it’s just a matter of when. The 6’2″, 200-pound left-hander has a cannon for an arm and can already accurately toss a pass 55+ yards.

Following this eventful morning, PSN was able to catch up with Armstrong to talk about his day at Pitt and any reaction that he received from the coaches.

“When we got there, they took our height, weight and wingspan,” said Armstrong. “Then we went and had like a huddle before all the coaches and scouts introduced themselves. Then we got into position specific drills. At first, I was with the B group because I wasn’t really warmed up. Then like two minutes in, Coach Narduzzi told me to get with the A’s and that’s when I started separating from the B’s. The A group consisted of guys with multiple D-1 offers from places like Maryland, East Carolina and Coastal Carolina.”

“We then went to routes with no defenders, to 1v1 to 7v7. That’s where I felt pretty good.”

Something else that made Armstrong feel good was the interaction and feedback that he received from the Panthers coaching staff.

“Coach Narduzzi made me feel very welcomed by just having conversations with he and calling out my name during drills, helping me out with some of my reads.”

“Afterwards, Coach Narduzzi invited me to the Steelers OTAs next week but sadly, I’ll be out of town and won’t be able to attend. He then invited me to come visit Pitt sometimes in June. I also talked a lot to Coach LaSala about school, family and sports. Overall, it was just a good day.”

Armstrong currently is playing lights out for the Hopewell Township Pony League team and is also taking part in football workouts for the varsity team.
