HW Grade 2-4 Flag Football Champs!

This weekend the grade 2-4 HW flag football team comprised of mostly Hopewell kids won the Championship.

Pitt wins 2nd-4th grade Beaver County Flag Football Championship

Over the last 6 weeks, the Beaver Country Flag Football League took place at Wright Field in Chippewa.  This weekend culminated in the playoffs with the champions being crowned Sunday evening.  Led by Hopewell, Fatima and Central Valley kids, Pitt Panthers won the 2nd through 4th grade Championship over Oregon.  A stifling defense and an opportunistic offense was the key to success for the champions.  The team was 4-1 in the regular season and won their pool and entered the playoffs as the #2 overall seed.

After falling behind 6-0 on the first play of the first round, the Panthers would not give up another point for the rest of the playoffs.  The defense stabilized and the offense put up a huge second half in a cold rainstorm on Saturday to secure the opening round win over Colorado.

The semifinals and championship game took place on Sunday.  Points would be hard to come by the rest of the way.  Following a key interception that put the ball deep in Florida State’s end of the field, the Panthers scored on a 3rd down short pass and converted the extra point for the 7-0 lead.  That lead would stand and they moved on to the championship game.

A very similar story in the championship game as the defense set up the offense.  Each team was able to move the ball deep into the other teams territory only to ultimately turn it over on downs short of the end zone.  Oregon primarily moved the ball through the air on deep throws while Pitt stuck to their ground game.  On defense, Pitt snatched one of those long passes and returned the interception to the 10 yard line.  It took just 2 plays and the Panthers took the lead 6-0.  The defense would make that score hold and the boys secured the CHAMPIONSHIP!

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
