Central Valley Blanks Hopewell HS Baseball, 2-0
Today’s matchup between Hopewell and Central Valley featured two dominant starting pitchers.
Unfortunately for Hopewell’s David Medich, Central Valley took advantage of an early miscue and got a big hit bomb late to defeat Hopewell, 2-0.
The unquestioned story of the game was Central Valley right-hander Zac McLean, who went 6.2 innings, allowing only 2 hits, 0 walks and striking out 15 batters.
Medich nearly matched him, going 5 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 5 batters. The only run Medich allowed came in the second inning and was unearned.
Through the first six innings, the only time Hopewell had a runner in scoring position was the second inning, as they stranded him at third.
Central Valley extended their lead to 2-0 on a solo HR by Welling to left field.
Hopewell had a chance in the final frame but CV made a big play to end the game.
With 2 outs, Hopewell got two singles by James Gill and Charlie Smetana to give their team a chance. With runners at 1st and 2nd, Tyler Triscila singled to left but the CV left fielder, Ciucci came up throwing and got the runner at the plate to end the game.
Hopewell’s record drops to 6-6 and 3-4 in the section. The Vikings have lost 4 of their last 5 and in those 4 losses have only scored a total of 3 runs.
These two teams will battle again tomorrow with the venue switching to Hopewell High School. First pitch is set for 4 pm.
