Hopewell Gymnastics Preparing For This Weekends PA Classic State Championships

This upcoming weekend the Hopewell Gymnastics team will attend the PA Classic State Championships at Moon High School on Saturday, February 17th.On Saturday, here’s who qualified individually for Hopewell- Olivia Sedlacek qualified into the Gold Division, Alaina Kelly, Emily Bauknight and Marina Pinchotti have qualified individually into the Silver Division. Division qualifications are determined from the scores from their regular season meets.

Head coach Terri Gazda and Hopewell also qualified into the Team Championships. The Vikings team is seeded first in the Silver Division for Team awards out of 6 teams. Qualifications into the team competition are determined from their team scores during regular season meets.  With only 4 teammates competing this weekend, every score will count towards their Team score. Hopewell girls will need to have their best performances in hopes of winning 1st Place as a team.

Hopewell Sports Nation caught up with Hopewell assistant coach Jess Irwin, who shared some of her thoughts on the State Championships this weekend.

“The team has made skill improvements over the past few weeks and hope to show their consistency this weekend,” said Irwin. “In the gymnastics world, Beam can “make or break” a team. Hopewell will need to hit their beam routines. All the girls have been working on cleaning up their twisting tumbling passes as well as their leaps and jumps. The team will need to work together, support one another and have fun.”

“Marina Pinchotti is the WPIAL Silver All-Around Champion and has big goals set to win the PA Classic too. Alaina, Emily and Olivia have goals set to improve routines from their WPIAL Championships too.”
