Hopewell Girls Basketball Finish Regular Season With Dominating Win Over Northgate
The Hopewell Girls Basketball team found out earlier today that they’d open the 2024 WPIAL playoffs next Tuesday against Greensburg Salem.
However, the Vikings still had one more regular season game to play, as they hosted Northgate High School. It was Senior Night as the program recognized forward Christy Sundy, the lone senior on the Hopewell roster.
Hopewell finished the regular season in style as they completely dominated an undermanned Northgate team by the score of 63-12. This was an opportunity for Coach Homziak to utilize his entire roster and he did just that. Despite the large margin of victory, Hopewell displayed plenty of sportsmanship as they did their best to not run the score up.
Hopewell finishes the 2023-24 regular season with a record of 11-11 and now move onto to the playoffs.
Here are the highlights of tonight’s game:
1st Quarter Recap:
-Not surprisingly, sophomore Caylee Sundy opened up the scoring hitting a corner jump shot. Hopewell 2-0.
-Christy Sundy pulls down an offensive rebound and kicks it out to her sister, who nails a 3 from the top of the key. Hopewell 5-0.
-On Senior Night, Christy Sundy got in the score book as she banked in a 3-pointer. Hopewell 8-0.
-Sophomore McKenna Ladson, had a nice game tonight, on this possession, she comes up with a steal and takes it in for a layup. Hopewell 10-0.
-Caylee Sundy with a steal, then finds Ladson with a nice bounce pass, and she connects for her second hoop of the night. Hopewell 12-0.
-Ladson returns the favor as she grabs an offensive rebound and kicks it out to Caylee Sundy, who makes her second 3 of the night. Hopewell 15-0.
-Near the end of the quarter, sophomore Allison Ramaley with a strong drive to the hoop for a layup. Hopewell 17-0.
-Amelia McCloskey with a missed shot but freshman Avery Boyd gets the offensive rebound and layup. Hopewell 19-2.

2nd Quarter Recap:
-Great ball movement for Hopewell results in a shot in the lane for freshman Marlee Page. Hopewell 21-2.
-Mya Richburg with a nice entry pass in the paint to Christy Sundy, who connects. Hopewell 23-2.
-Caylee Sundy stays hot as she connects on another 3-point shot. Hopewell 25-2.
-McCloskey gets in the action as she nails a shot off the glass. Hopewell 30-2.
-At the buzzer, Richburg hits a deep 3. Hopewell 33-2

3rd Quarter Recap:
-Like she did in the 1st quarter, Caylee Sundy scored the first hoop of the half, this one with a beautiful spin move in the lane. Hopewell 35-2.
-Caylee drives across the lane and finds Ladson, who banks one off the glass. Hopewell 37-4.
-Caylee with an offensive rebound and finds Ramaley, who finishes. Hopewell 39-4.
-Hopewell transition as Christy Sundy dribbles coast-to-coast for the layup. Hopewell 43-6.
-Christy once again scores from outside as she hits another corner jumper. Hopewell 45-6.
-McCloskey with a miss but Ladson gets another rebound and another basket. Hopewell 47-8

4th Quarter Recap:
-More scoring for the senior as Sundy makes another outside jump shot. Hopewell 54-10
-Nice passing by Hopewell, Boyd misses but Ladison with a rebound and puts in another layup. Hopewell 56-10.
-Boyd with a nice pass in the corner to Ramaley who connects. Hopewell 58-10.
-More nice passing results in a deep 3 from Boyd. Hopewell 61-10.
-Last basket of the night comes from Ladson, who you guessed it, gets an offensive rebound and layup.
FINAL SCORE: HOPEWELL 63 NORTHGATE 12.
