The only blemish on their record came against South Fayette back in December, as South Fayette hit a 3-point shot at the buzzer to defeat the Vikings, 47-46.

The Vikings will have their chance to get revenge this afternoon as they’ll host South Fayette in a rematch. Tipoff from the Hopewell Junior High School will take place around 4:30 PM. The Junior High Blue team will be in-action first with their game starting at 3:30 PM.

Hopewell will be facing stiff competition this week with today’s game against South Fayette and Friday’s contest against Aliquippa.

Considering the result of their first matchup, there’s no chance Hopewell will be looking ahead to the Quips on Friday.

Hopewell Sports Nation caught up with head coach Doug Biega this morning and asked him what he remembers and can take from their first game against South Fayette.

“The short answer is everything,” said Biega. “We were extremely arrogant. Having not lost in almost two calendar years. We did not play well at all. Live ball turnovers, losing our defensive assignments, and not finishing around the rim. All things that are a recipe for a loss.”

That being said, aside from eliminating those things, what are some keys to earning a win this afternoon?

“Keys for today are simple and my assistant coaches stress it daily,” said Biega. “We have to compete at a very high-level. If our energy, effort, and competitiveness is the same as it was the last time we were challenged (Sewickley Academy) we will play well, and whatever happens will happen. If we are lackadaisical, and a step slow mentally, we will lose again. I would like to think this South Fayette group got our attention The last time we played them, and we will get a good effort from the guys. South Fayette is a massive school district with a huge pool of athletes from which to choose. This is a great opportunity for our guys.”

If you have an opportunity, today is one of a few games left for you to come out and support both the Blue and Gold teams. As previously mentioned, the first game today starts at 3:30 PM, followed by the second game at 4:30 PM.
