Hopewell Junior High Blue Team Beats Quaker Valley For 1st Win Of Season

Following yesterday’s loss to West Allegheny, we told you that despite the 0-6 record, the Hopewell Junior High Blue Basketball team was playing much better of late and were close.

Well today they finally did it and earned win No. 1 on the season with a convincing win at home against Quaker Valley.

Congratulation to Coach Gaguzis and his team the win which is obviously a huge relief for everyone.

The Vikings had everything going today as they scored a season-high in points and allowed just 7 to the Quakers.

1ST QUARTER RECAP
*First basket of the game went to Ryan Gaguzis, who hit a floater in the lane. Hopewell 2-0
*Following that basket, Hopewell trapped, and Andrew Arzberger came up with the steal on the inbounds pass and then converted a layup. Hopewell 4-0
*Zack Sampson had another strong game and scored his first two points from the foul line after he was fouled on a shot in the paint. Hopewell 6-0
*Sampson then showed his passing skills as he found Arzberger underneath for 2 more. Hopewell 8-1
*Hopewell was very active today defensively, coming up with a number of steals. Sampson intercepted a pass and dished to Nykyeron Leonora for 2. Hopewell 10-1
*Another steal as Sampson got the theft and the bucket. Hopewell 12-2

END OF 1ST QUARTER: HOPEWELL 12 QUAKER VALLEY 2

2ND QUARTER RECAP
*On an inbounds play, Josh Gill hits a 3-pointer. Hopewell 15-2
*More 3-pointers for Hopewell as Jackson Yurcina nails a 3 from the corner. Hopewell 20-2.
*Next possession following a steal, Yurcina drains another one from the exact same spot. Hopewell 23-2.
*Following a defensive rebound, Leonora keeps the ball himself and takes it in for a layup. Hopewell 25-2.
*More defensive as Arzberger steals a pass, then connects with Sampson who takes it coast to coast. Hopewell 27-2.

HALFTIME: HOPEWELL 27 QUAKER VALLEY 2

3RD QUARTER RECAP
*On a set play called Texas, Arzberger is at the free throw line and passes to a cutting Leonora for the layup. Hopewell 30-2
*More defense as Gaguzis steals the ball, passes to Sampson, who finds Gill for the layup. Hopewell 32-2.
*Coming in from the left wing, Sampson hits 2 off the glass.

END OF 3RD QUARTER: HOPEWELL 34 QUAKER VALLEY 4

4TH QUARTER RECAP
*After crashing the boards twice, Leonora continues to work and finally puts it in. Hopewell 38-4
*Final basket of the game, Leonora showed off his dribbling skills and finishes in the paint.

FINAL SCORE: HOPEWELL 40 QUAKER VALLEY 7

After back-to-back games, Hopewell has the weekend off before returning to action next Tuesday as they travel to Montour.
