Hopewell Athletics Five Best Moments of 2023

The year 2023 is officially in the rear-view mirror and excitedly looking forward to the year ahead.
Hopewell athletics had a tremendous year and at this time, Hopewell Sports Nation wanted to recognize the Top 5 Moments of the past year.
HOPEWELL HS BOYS SOCCER TEAM WITH HUGE PLAYOFF WIN!
The Hopewell High School Boys Soccer team entered the 2023 WPIAL Playoffs as the No. 14 seed and had to go on the road to take on No. 3 seed Deer Lakes.
Not only were Deer Lakes the No. 3 seed, but they were also the defending WPIAL Champions.
No one aside from members of the Hopewell soccer program and the Hopewell community thought they could win and guess what? They did just that.
The Vikings went on the road and shutout out No. 3 seed Deer Lakes, 4-0. This was the first WPIAL playoff win for the Hopewell boys soccer program since back in 2012.
Congratulations to Coach Morbacher and the members of the Hopewell program.
The Vikings lost in the next round to Shady Side Academy but regardless, it was a huge accomplishment and steppingstone for the program.
HISTORY MADE BY EMMA PALMIERI!
Hopewell Sports Nation would like to recognize and congratulate Hopewell junior cross country standout Emma Palmieri.
On Saturday, Palmieri represented Hopewell as she competed in the PIAA AA Cross Country Championship in Hershey. She became only the 3rd Hopewell athlete ever to qualify for the Pennsylvania State Championships for both Cross Country and Track.
Yesterday’s championship meet consisted of 249 runners and Palmieri finished 102nd. Nice job Emma, that’s a tremendous accomplishment.
Palmieri had an outstanding season as she averaged about two minutes faster compared to her meet times last season.
The exciting part is that Emma is only a junior, so she’ll have one more season to compete and there’s no doubt that she’ll be working hard all off-season to improve.
Congrats Emma, you should be proud of yourself, and you made Hopewell proud!
HOPWELL JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL TEAM WERE CHAMPS!
Craig Bokor’s Hopewell Junior High Football team had an incredible season by winning the 3A Regular Season Championship, highlighted with big wins over Avonworth and Aliquippa.
This team rebounded from just a 2-win season last year to completely dominate nearly every team on this year’s schedule, backed up by the fact that only two of their 7 opponents scored points against them.
The Vikings then hosted New Castle in the ‘Big School’ Junior High Football Championship and those two teams played to an incredible 42-42 tie.
The work and dedication that this group of boys put in, starting in the offseason, to accomplish this goal was impressive and championship worthy.
Nice job guys and no doubt big things are ahead for this group of players.
25 YEARS AND COUNTING!
25 years in a row! The Hopewell Girls Volleyball team clinched a spot in the WPIAL playoffs for the 25th consecutive season. Although they lost in the 1st round of the WPIAL playoffs to Charleroi, to able to extend this streak was impressive. A big shoutout to all the seniors and the whole Vikings team, as they battled all year and played their hearts out. No doubt that Coach Borkovic and his players will be back and will be looking to extend that impressive streak to 26 years.
HOPEWELL HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM BRING HOME THE GOLD!
A true underdog story the Vikings Baseball Team started as the fourteenth seed in the playoffs, but never gave up hope.
Coach Morgan Singletary and the Vikings did the unthinkable and won the WPIAL 4A Baseball Championship, the 5th baseball championship in school history. This was a true team accomplishment as different players stepped up in various games throughout the journey to accomplish this impressive feat.
Like with the junior high football program, this program has a strong core of young players, so it’ll be exciting to follow their journey over the next few years.
