The Hopewell Vikings Bowling Team celebrated a successful home opener to their 2024-2025 season with an incredible 21-0 win over the Quaker Valley Quakers at Sheffield Lanes on Thursday.

The Lady Vikings, finally at full strength, defeated the Quakers 7-0 to gain their first win of the season in what they hope will be the beginning of the most competitive part of their schedule. The Lady Vikings were led by Sopohomore Annabeth Sembower who shot 421 to lead all women scorers. “AB” was followed closely by senior captain Jenna Willy contributing a 412 series and senior captain Marissa Platko shooting a career high 152 game and career high 400 series. The three Viking women were the highest scorers in the match on either team and powered the Lady Vikings to the earliest win they’ve had in a season in several years.  The Lady Vikings will face the Ambridge Bridgers next week at Sheffield in a match that will determine which team has a head start on a WPIBL playoff berth.

The Viking Boys were led by sophomore lead-off bowler Ayden Gault, who for the third straight match shot a career best series – this time with a 564 series and a career high 221 game to buoy the Vikings in a sneaky tough match coming off a huge emotional win at Montour on Wednesday. Senior captain Colin Roessler contributed his first 500 series of the year in his return to the lineup after missing a week and freshman Nolan Houy added on two 167 games to take the Vikings to 3-0 on the season after the 7-0 win against the Quakers.

In JV action, the JV boys were led by senior Zach Hughes just missing out on his first 400 series to lead the JV team to a 7-0 win.

In what is becoming a new Viking Bowling tradition, team MVP awards for the week were presented to sophomore Ayden Gault and senior Marissa Platko. This match marks the first time in second-year head coach Stan Magusiak’s tenure that the Vikings have swept a match – a huge coup for the Hopewell Viking program.

The Vikings will host Ambridge next week on Wednesday at Sheffield Lanes before going on winter break until after the New Year.

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
