Hopewell Girls Varsity Gymnastics Places FIRST in The PA State Championship
On February 20th and February 21st, Hopewell Varsity Girls Gymnastics traveled to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, for their State Competition to compete in the girls’ Silver Division for the team score. They competed on February 20th for a team score and on February 21st for individualized compeition
Friday, February 20th:
The team score is found by taking the top four athletes’ scores and adding them together for each event to get a total team score. On Friday, Hopewell Girls received their HIGHEST team score of the entire season, coming in at a 133.15, making them this year’s Silver division champions. The girls all worked hard for their scores it definitely showed. The girls’ gymnastics team has not placed 1st in a long time! The girls who competed on Friday include Stella Vallecorsa, Reece Jesko, Lia Eberhardt, Madison Bradford, Camryn Pedaline, and Makenzie Zupsic
Saturday, February 21st:
This was the individualized competition, where the Bronze and Silver Divisions competed in the morning, and the Gold and Diamond Divisions held their competition following the conclusion of the previous competition, in which those in the respective divisions competed for scores on bars, beam, vault, floor, and all-around. In the Bronze Division, Camryn Pedaline placed 5th on floor, and Madison Bradford. placed 2nd on the floor. In the Silver Division, Reece Jesko. placed 4th on beam, 7th on floor, and 5th all-around; Stella Vallecorsa placed 10th on floor, and Lia Eberhardt. placed 2nd on vault. In the Gold Division, Makenzie Zupsic. placed 12th on floor, 10th all-around, and was the Pennsylvania State Champion for beam (1st place).
This State Championship marked the conclusion of the High School season, and Hopewell brought home many amazing accomplishments. Congratulations to these girls for putting in the hard work and having an incredible season.
