Hopewell 7th Grade Basketball Open Season with Dominating Win Over Montour
MONTOUR– Things could not have gotten offer to a better start for Head Coach Dave Johnson and the Hopewell 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team.
After blowing out Ambridge in their opening scrimmage, the Vikings went on the road this afternoon and did the same thing against Montour.
Coach Johnson has an extremely deep and talented roster that have a handful of legitimate scoring options, but their strongest asset is the team defense. They force turnover after turnover that eventually result in transition points.
This was the case today as the Vikings (1-0) ran away to a 47-9 win over the Spartans.
1st Quarter Recap:
-The Vikings jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on baskets from 3 different players- Ryder Kostrick, Connor Reed and Kaleb Gonzalez.
-Nico Amadio with a great pass to Gonzalez, who misses the shot, but big man Christian Fischer was there to grab the offensive board and layup. Hopewell 12-3.
-Hopewell runs a pick-n-roll to perfection as Amadio finds Gonzalez for the layup. Hopewell 14-5.
-Kostrick gets his first steal of the game and gets it to Gonzalez, who misses first shot but fights for his own rebound and puts it back. Hopewell 16-5.
-Following a defensive rebound, Amadio, who did a great job running the offense, hits Fischer with a pass and he finishes. Hopewell 18-5.
-Kostrick with another steal and takes it coast to coast for the layup, Hopewell 20-5.

2nd Quarter Recap:
*Hopewell only scored 6 points this quarter, 4 of which came from the free throw line.
-Their lone hoop came on a steal by Kaein Dowling, who then took it in for a layup. Hopewell 22-5.
Halftime: Hopewell 26 Montour 7
3rd Quarter Recap:
*The Vikings run a nice inbounds play as Amadio gets it to Gonzalez for the layup, Hopewell 29-7.
*Another successful inbounds play, Amadio finds Gonzalez, who misses but once again Fischer cleans it up with a layup, Hopewell 31-7.
*Fischer shows his passing skills, with a pass across the block to Gonzalez, who finishes strong, Hopewell 36-7.
*More defense from Kostrick as he picks up another steal and takes it home for the layup, Hopewell 38-7.

4th Quarter Recap:
-Hopewell led by 30+ points so it resulted in a running clock, which sped up the final quarter.
-Enzo Leopardi had a nice final quarter for the Vikings as he scored his first basket of the season after an offensive rebound and layup, Hopewell 40-7.
-Leopardi then comes up with the steal and an assist to Dowling for 2, Hopewell 42-7.
-David Johnson takes it into the paint and passes off to Leopardi for the layup, Hopewell 44-9.
-Then the final basket of the game came from a steal from Javy Gomez, who took it in for the layup.
FINAL SCORE: Hopewell 47 Montour 9
The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Eden Christian Academy. After the game, HSN spoke to Hopewell 7th grade coach Dave Johnson.
