HV Varsity Baseball – Year Round Dedication!
Off the Field, and in the Weight Room
With all the low temperatures and snow on the ground, you might not think of baseball at a time like this. But the Hopewell High School Baseball team has already been preparing for the 2025 spring season. While you’re sleeping early in the morning, some of your classmates woke up extra early to go into the weight room before school.
For a couple of years now, the Hopewell Baseball team has been training in the offseason by weightlifting in the mornings a couple days a week. This is a year-round process, so in the summer, they have coaches there every morning from about 9am-10am, and in the fall and winter, the players come on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school.
The Hopewell Baseball program has been one of the most successful teams in the township. In 2023, they won their fifth WPIAL title in program history. Coach Morgan Singletary wants to continue that success, “Everything we do has a purpose. We are a year older with another year of experience and another year in the weight room. I think we have a very good chance of moving back up to one of the top teams in the section if we make improvements on offense and our pitching continues to develop the way it has been. A lot of players really got at it this summer, fall, and this point through the winter. In most cases, that work really pays off,” said Singletary.
This experience doesn’t just help the team with their individual strength, but with their strength as a team, “Having team lifts prompts buy-in and accountability between the players. It gives opportunities for players to step up as leaders and dictate the direction of the team. We have a group of players that want to be there and want to win. When you put in the amount of work some of these guys have, you don’t want it to be a waste,” said Singletary.
Coach expressed how optimistic he was about the upcoming season, “If we get some leaders that have put in the work and lead by example to push the rest of the group, then this team can have a lot of fun this season.” This is the team’s third year with Singletary and is just waiting for another successful year.
A good baseball program also has a lot of support from parents and the township and the Varsity baseball program is not short on its dedicated support backed by The Hopewell Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball Boosters Program. The Boosters will be hosting their Annual Night at the Races this evening which is their primary source of funding for the baseball program both Varsity, JV and Junior High. Athletes are driven to sell tickets to support the program they play for and to help drive setup on Saturday morning the day of the event. Countless hours of work go into preparations and setup of this event and the money is used directly on the athletes.
Consider supporting all three of these teams by enjoying a night out this evening, details below.
