Once again this was a well-run tournament, and it was awesome to a packed gym for this championship game between Hopewell and Ave Maria.

The key to this game was the inside-outside threat that Coach Jamie Yurcina’s team had with the duo of Rilynn Davis and Lydia Jaquay. Davis scored a game-high 12 points, while Jaquay followed her up with 9 points.

Here is a recap of today’s championship win for Hopewell.

1ST QUARTER SUMMARY:
-First basket of the game came on a 3-point shot from Davis, who connected from the top of the circle.  Hopewell 3-0.

-After grabbing a defensive rebound, Jaquay showed off her dribbling skills by driving the length of the court for a layup. Hopewell 5-1.

-Later in the quarter, Jaquay with a missed shot but Davis gets the offensive rebound and puts it back in for 2. Hopewell 7-1.

END OF 1ST QUARTER: HOPEWELL 7 AVE MARIA 1.

2ND QUARTER SUMMARY:

-Nice defense by Hopewell as Isla Rock comes up with the steal and drives the length of the court for a layup. Hopewell 14-3.

-More Vikings defense as this time it’s Naveah Pope with the steal and she’d get fouled shooting. Pope would then make 2 FT’s from the line.  Hopewell 16-3.
