Vikings Shine in Strong Showing Against Seton La Salle
The Hopewell Vikings delivered an impressive performance in their meet against Seton La Salle, showcasing depth, determination, and standout individual efforts across the board. Competing with confidence from the opening relay to the final event, the Vikings captured first place finishes in the majority of races and demonstrated continued growth as the season progresses.
On the boys’ side, Hopewell secured a convincing victory with a final score of Hopewell 69, Seton La Salle 60. The Vikings controlled the meet with strong relay performances and multiple individual wins. Highlights included first-place finishes in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay, as well as dominant swims from Joey Gregory, Mitchell Ryan, Tyler Oliver, and Holden Webster. Gregory claimed victories in the 200 Free and 100 Free, while Ryan swept the 200 IM and anchored the winning relay efforts. Oliver added a key win in the 100 Butterfly, and Webster powered through the 500 Free for another Vikings victory.
The girls’ meet was tightly contested, with Seton La Salle edging Hopewell 58–53, but the Vikings’ effort was nothing short of outstanding. The team opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, setting the tone early. Hazel McCowin delivered an exceptional performance with wins in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke, while Evelyn Cagnon captured first place in the grueling 500 Free. Emma Driscoll and Cagnon went one-two in the 200 Free, highlighting Hopewell’s depth and competitive spirit.
Relays were a major strength for the Vikings throughout the meet, with multiple squads stepping up and delivering strong, cohesive performances. The consistent teamwork and race execution reflected the hard work being put in during practice.
Head Coach Kathi Lopez praised the team’s overall effort following the meet, saying, “The Vikings had a great meet yesterday vs Seton La Salle. The Vikings took 1st place in most events. The scores are as follows: Girls – Seton La Salle 58, Hopewell 53. Boys – Hopewell 69, Seton La Salle 60.”
With strong performances across all strokes, valuable experience for younger swimmers, and continued leadership from upperclassmen, the Vikings are building excellent momentum as they move forward in the season. This meet served as another positive step in what promises to be an exciting year for Hopewell swimming.
