πββοΈππ RECORDS FALL AT WPIALS: Hopewell Swimmers Deliver Historic Performances
The Hopewell Vikings swim team made waves at the WPIAL Championships this week, delivering a series of record-breaking and personal-best performances that showcased the programβs continued rise on the district stage. From relay breakthroughs to individual podium finishes, Hopewell swimmers proved once again that Viking excellence is built in the water.
Both Hopewell 200 Medley Relay teams turned in season-defining swims with new lifetime best times. The girls relay β Ava Yoder, Hazel McCowin, Emma Driscoll, and Lindsey Brown β combined for a powerful performance that highlighted their depth and precision across all four strokes. The boys relay team of Mitchell Ryan, Joel Olshanski, Tyler Oliver, and Joey Gregory matched that energy with their own best-ever swim, setting the tone early in the meet.
Individually, Hazel McCowin delivered one of the standout performances of the championships. She re-broke her own Hopewell school record in the 200 Individual Medley, lowering the mark again to 2:10 and capturing the WPIAL Silver Medal β a remarkable achievement at one of the stateβs most competitive meets. McCowin continues to redefine the standard for Hopewell swimming, building on a season already filled with historic swims.
On the boys side, Joey Gregory surged to a new lifetime best in the 200 Freestyle, while Tyler Oliver turned in a near-personal-best swim in the 100 Butterfly, narrowly missing his top time in a strong championship field.
The meet closed with an emotional breakthrough for the boys 200 Freestyle Relay, as the Viking quartet delivered a final-heat lifetime best β a fitting exclamation point on a championship meet defined by progress, belief, and team unity.
Across relays and individual events, Hopewell swimmers demonstrated the programβs defining traits: commitment, resilience, and the pursuit of faster water. With records falling and medals earned, the Vikings leave WPIALs with momentum and pride that will carry forward into the postseason.
