Huge Game from Ava Ray Leads Hopewell 8th Grade Basketball Past Montour
The Hopewell 8th grade girl’s junior high basketball team went on the road and defeated a good Montour team, 40-21.
The Lady Vikings were led by guard Ava Ray, who was the best player on the court and scored a career-high 20 points (two 3-pointers).
Hopewell got off to a quick start and led 16-8 at halftime. The key point of the game was in the second half when Montour cut the score to 24-19 but Hopewell went on a 16-0 run to ice the game.
Ray was a big factor in that 4th quarter run as she collected 12 points in the final quarter.
Other Viking standouts were Lily Enders 7 points and 11 rebounds, Abby Babinsack with 6 points, Calasia Cannon with 5 points and Lillian Otto with 2 points.
The Hopewell 8th grade girls are now 2-0 and will return to action next Tuesday at Blackhawk.
HOPEWELL 7TH GRADE GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
The Hopewell 7th grade girls were also victorious as they defeated Montour, 30-22. Hopewell was dominant from the opening tip and never trailed in the game.
Hopewell led 12-9 at halftime and started the second half on an 8-0 run to secure the win. A big factor in the win was Hopewell’s ability to rebound as they pulled down 28 of them.
Arionna Shell once again paced with way for the Lady Vikings with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Elianna McCoy poured in 7 points and also led Hopewell with 3 blocked shots, Afton Budris 4 points, Amiyah Shell 3 points, Dallas Boyd 2 points and Sam Holsinger 2 points.
Like the 8th grade team, the Hopewell 7th grade team is now 2-0 and will take on Blackhawk this coming Tuesday.
