Hopewell HS Boys Basketball Team Picks Up 2nd Win of Season
After opening the season by going 1-1 in the South Side Tip-Off Event, the Hopewell HS Boys Basketball team went on the road to take on the Beaver Falls Tigers.
Aside from the challenge of winning on the road, this was also a special night for the Beaver Falls Boys basketball program as they held a 20-year reunion to honor the 2005 WPIAL and State Championship team, coached by Hopewell resident Doug Biega.
Despite all the festivities, the Vikings were able to stay focused and come away with a 60-51 victory, which improves their record to 2-1.
The key to victory was the quick start by Hopewell as they outscored the Tigers 24-9 after the first quarter. After that, BF played the rest of the game on even terms, even outscoring Hopewell in the 3rd and 4th quarters.
A big reason for the quick start was Hopewell’s ability to limit turnovers and also controlling the game in the paint and Beaver Falls couldn’t match up. In the paint, Hopewell shot an outstanding 52% (18 for 34). In fact, of Hopewell’s 25 made field goals, 18 of them came down low in the paint.
Taking a look at some other statistics, the Vikings connected on 5 3-pointers, outscored BF 15-9 in points off turnovers, won the rebound battle (37-36) and collected assists on 11 of their 26 baskets.
Here’s a look at the players box score:
