On a gorgeous evening here in Hopewell the Varsity Softball Team came out hungry after last week’s loss to Union taking a decisive win against Ambridge 14-4.

The bats were hot today totaling 14 hits for Hopewell with four players with 3+ hits. Kara Barkovich had a game of redemption after a tough start last week as she went 3-4. Katkich, Mann, and Ramaley each put up three hits next to Barkovich to lead the HW Vikings. Kara Barkovich tripled in the first, singled in the sixth and crushed an inside the park home run in the fifth.

HSN has the post game interview with Kara:

Game Recap:

Hopewell Varsity Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Isabella Katkich singled, and Victoria Mann grounded out, each scoring one run.

HW added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Katkich singled, and Ambridge commited an error, each scoring two runs.

HW continued to tack on more runs in the fifth inning on four hits. Mya Parish singled, scoring one run and Barkovich hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs.

Barkovich lead off the game striking out seven and giving up three runs in four innings, which was an impressive turnaround from her first outing last week.

HW was unrelenting on the bases stealing 17 in the game and challenging the Bridgers all night.

Ambridge did have one bright spot on the evening with M Keber going 3 for 3 from the leadoff position as HW could not find an answer for her bat during the game.

HSN will have all the coverage this week as the HW Varsity and JV Softball teams head down to Tennessee to the Ripken Experience to compete against new teams never seen before.

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
