Hopewell JH 8th Grade Basketball Kicks Off Summer League with Back-to-Back Wins
The Hopewell Junior High basketball team is off to a strong start in summer league play, showing grit, growth, and great teamwork through their first two matchups.
In their opening game against Beaver, Hopewell found themselves in an early hole—down by 10 points when fans started to file in. But as the game progressed, the team began to settle in, find their rhythm, and play true team basketball. With sharper passing, smarter shot selection, and tighter defense, they mounted an impressive comeback to win it 35–30.
Game two was a quick turnaround, this time facing Moon. Still riding the momentum and already warmed up from playing in Gym B, the team looked even more connected on the court. Communication, hustle, and trust in one another led the way to another nail-biting victory—this time finishing on top 34–30.
The chemistry is already starting to build, and that’s a testament to the guidance of coaches Patrick Phillips and BJ McBride. Under their leadership, the group is showing not only talent but resilience and discipline early in the season.
The action continues this Friday, June 20, with the 8th grade squad scheduled for a doubleheader: first taking on Blackhawk at 10:50 AM in Gym A, followed by a matchup with CV8 at 12:30 PM in Gym B.
With two tough wins under their belt and confidence rising, Hopewell is already shaping up to be a force in this year’s summer league.
