First Quarter: Hopewell Establishes Commanding Lead
The game got off to a fast start as Spang of Hopewell drew a quick foul on the first play of the game, converting two points from the line. Hopewell then capitalized on a steal by Richburg, though a turnover on the other end briefly halted their momentum. After a few fouls and missed opportunities, Hopewells offense found a rhythm, with great passing between Sundy and Spang setting up an easy two points.
As Lincoln Park struggled with fouls early on, Hopewell made them pay, converting those opportunities into another two points. Despite some foul trouble for the Leopards, they couldnt find any consistency on offense. Hopewells defense swarmed and stifled Lincoln Park, leading to a steady offensive flow for the Vikings.
Midway through the first quarter, Hopewells defensive energy was evident. Spang grabbed a key rebound and converted for another two points, putting the Vikings up 8-2. A couple more fouls against the Leopards resulted in free throw opportunities for Hopewell. Richburg converted the first free throw but missed the second.
As the first quarter wore on, a layup by Lincoln Park cut into Hopewells lead, but a quick three-pointer by Avery Boyd pushed Hopewells advantage to 12-4 with two minutes left. The Vikings continued to show their defensive prowess as a breakaway play from Sunday to Blosnick resulted in an easy two points. Hopewell quickly transitioned the ball down the court, drawing a shooting foul on Boyd, though she missed both free throws.
Avery Boyd made up for the missed free throws, sinking a layup and extending the lead to 16-6. A few more turnovers and missed opportunities for both teams punctuated the rest of the quarter. By the time the buzzer sounded, Hopewell was comfortably in front 22-6.
Second Quarter: Hopewell Holds Steady
The Vikings strong defense continued into the second quarter, as Sundy opened the period with a fast-break layup. Lincoln Park committed a couple of fouls but failed to convert any points from the charity stripe. Hopewells Richburg continued to dominate on the boards, pulling down a crucial rebound, though a turnover on the other end briefly stalled Hopewells offense.
Midway through the second, Hopewell maintained a 24-9 lead. Richburgs vision and playmaking were on full display as she delivered a stellar pass to Spang, who finished with another two points. After a breakaway from the Leopards, Hopewells defense again proved its worth as they swatted away a potential scoring attempt, maintaining their double-digit lead.
Despite a few more steals from Richburg, Hopewell wasnt able to convert on all their possessions, as both teams struggled with efficiency. However, Hopewells defensive pressure continued to frustrate Lincoln Park. At the end of the half, Hopewell remained in control, leading 28-15.
