Hopewell Bowling
HW Vikes Bowling Split vs. Ambridge!
The Hopewell Vikings Bowling Team completed their last match before the holiday break with a split against the Ambridge Bridgers at Sheffield Lanes on Wednesday. The Viking Boys defeated the Bridgers 7-0 and will head into the break at 4-0, 1st in their section. The Lady Vikings lost a 5-2 decision and will head into the break at 1-3 and tied for 3rd place in the section. The Junior Varsity Vikings won 7-0 and remain undefeated on the season.
The Viking Boys were led by sophomore Aidan Heppner “finally” breaking out and shooting his first varsity 600 series. Heppner led all scorers with three “200” games, breaking the mark in all three games of the match – the first time any bowler in the section has accomplished that feat this season. Heppner joins senior captain Daniel Earley as the only two Vikings to notch 600 series this year, and the two Vikings now own the two highest series’ in the section this year. Senior captain Reese Jacobs added his season high 188 game to the match where the 8 highest series all belonged to Hopewell bowlers. The Vikings head into the break at 4-0 and in first place in their section.
The Lady Vikings lost a tough match by six pins (!!!) where the winner would grab 2nd place in the section heading into the break. The Vikings were led by sophomore Annabeth Sembower who shot a 441 to lead all scorers. Sophomore Krysten Clary shot a career-high 350 series and career-high 134 game including a run of 4 straight spares and 5 out of 6 spares in the second game to help the Lady Vikings win their lone game of the match.
The last MVPs of the 2024 calendar year were awarded to sophomore Aidan Heppner and sophomore Krysten Clary.
The JV Vikings remained undefeated and won 7-0. They were lead by sophomore Aiden Klette contributing a career high 471 series and just missing out of his high score with a 176. Sophomore Greg Bailes, who just started bowling about a month ago, shot his first 100 game immediately followed by his 2nd 100 game and then followed that up with his 3rd100 game!
The Vikings will be in action next on January 4th as they travel to the 2025 Bearcat Challenge High School Tournament sponsored by St. Vincent College Women’s Bowling! They’ll look to compete against some of the top teams in the WPIBL in the school’s first appearance in this tournament.
The Vikings will continue their regular season in January against Nazareth Prep at Paradise Island Bowl on January 8th.
