Hopewell 8th Grade Basketball Defeat Ambridge, 42-15

Hopewell Twp- Although it was an exhibition game, the Hopewell Boys 8th Grade basketball looked impressive this afternoon in a scrimmage against Ambridge.

The Vikings will once again be led by Zack Sampson and will go as far as the secondary scoring that they receive.

This afternoon, they received it in bunches from Roman Crisci and Josh Gill as the Vikings defeated the Bridgers, 42-15.

This was an opportunity before their opener on Thursday to play his entire roster and for the players to get some confidence.

1st Quarter Recap:
*Hopewell started off cold and didn’t score until a few minutes left in the opening quarter. The first basket of the game came as a result a steal by Sampson, who then raced to the other end for a layup, 2-2.

*Next trip down, good ball rotation at top of key, Luke Vukovcan swings it to Gill, who connects from the left wing, Hopewell 5-4.

*More good passing, this time, Vukovcan passes to the right wing and Crisci knocked down his first 3-pointer, Hopewell 8-4.

*Last basket of the quarter came as a result of an offensive rebound from Sampson, who put it back in for 2, Hopewell 10-4.

End of 1st Quarter:  Hopewell 10-4.

2nd Quarter Recap:

-Good defense kept Ambridge scoreless this entire quarter.

*The duo of Sampson and Crisci got things going for Hopewell as Zack assisted on a Roman jumper, 13-4.

*Following that hoop, Gill stole and attempted in-bounds pass and took it in for a layup. Hopewell 15-4.

*Later in the quarter, after a defensive rebound, the ball got out to Crisci, who drove the lane for 2 more, Hopewell 17-4.

*Near the end of the quarter, good ball rotation resulted in a 3-pointer from Jaxsen Covalt.

Halftime- Hopewell 20 Ambridge 4

3rd Quarter Recap:

*More good ball movement resulted in a good look for Gill, and he connects on corner jumper. Hopewell 22-4.

*Later, Gill drove into the paint and found Andrew Arzberger for a layup, 26-6.

*More offense from Arzberger as he got the ball low in the block and went up strong for 2, Hopewell 30-6.

*Arzberger doing more work as he grabs a rebound from a missed 3-pointer from Crisci and puts it in for 2, Hopewell 32-6.

End of 3rd Quarter: Hopewell 34 Ambridge 8

4th Quarter Recap:

*Following an Ambridge miss, Hopewell got out in transition, Vukovcan with a nice bounce pass to Sampson, who finished at the rim, Hopewell 36-12.

*Gill once again gets in the paint and finishes, Hopewell 38-12.

*Strong defense pays off as Arzberger steals a pass and finds Sampson, all alone for a layup, Hopewell 42-12.

Final Score: Hopewell 42 Ambridge 15.

Congrats Hopewell and good luck this season. The first game is this Thursday at Montour.
