The Hopewell Vikings Girls basketball team will open their 2024-25 home schedule tonight when they host Riverside.

The Vikings have started the season 0-3, with two of those games being extremely close contests, a 35-34 loss to South Side and most recently to Beaver Falls, 48-43.

Let’s hope some ‘home cooking’ is what they need to earn win No. 1 of the season.

Riverside enters with a record of 1-2, having beat Shenango and then losing their last 2 games against Wilmington and Union.

Hopewell is led by last year’s leading scorer Caylee Sundy along with guards Avery Boyd and Maya Richburg. Two young players that have earned big minutes in Coach Jeff Homziak’s rotation are freshman Cici Smetana and Addison Blosnick.

The key for Hopewell this season will be to find a consistent 2nd and 3rd scoring threat aside from Sundy along with being able to get down low and rebound.

For tonight’s home opener, it’s also Youth Recognition Night for the Little Lady Vikings and Little Dribblers. All players will get free admission.

In between the Girls JV and Varsity Game, all Little Lady Viking players in grades 3-6 will be recognized with their teams.

At halftime of the Girls Varsity Game, the Little Dribblers will put on a 5-minute skill show.

All players are encouraged to wear their Hopewell Vikings reversible jersey they received during the in-house season.

Tipoff tonight will be: Hopewell’s JV game at 6 PM and the Varsity Tipoff at 7:30 PM.
