Hopewell HS Boys Soccer Shuts Out Mohawk, 7-0
MOHAWK- The Hopewell HS Boys soccer team was able to generate some much needed offense in a 7-0 shutout today over Mohawk.
Along with the offense, the Vikings defense was able record a shutout led by goalie Tallon Coleman.
Mohawk was only able to generate a handful of shots past the defenders led by Jake Kovell, Alex Alvarado, Mike Dinardo, Sam Wrzesniewski and Sammy Milligan.
What was also much needed for the Vikings was showcasing their depth with goals coming from multiple players.
The first goal of the game came when the team successfully demonstrated their well-coordinated passing attack.
Bryce Ray started the play with a short pass to Nykyeron Leonora, who quickly turned it to Aaden Gonzalez, who found Sam Milligan, who then got it to Rocco Marcantonio for the goal. Hopewell led 1-0.
Marcantonio also scored the second goal when a throw-in by Tommy Armour was deflected by the goalie and Rocco was able to place it in the net. Hopewell goes up 2-0.
Armour made it 3-0 when Leonora made a run down the field and took a shot which was again deflected by the goalie. Armour picked up the loose ball and put it in the net.
Quincy Sannan was able to set up the next goal where he won a first touch against his defender and was able to put a pass to Armour, who found Aaden Gonzalez for his first goal of the season. Hopewell now led 4-0.
Hopewell showed significant improvement with more offensive players stepping up to support, while also winning crucial first touches.
Second half opened up when the team of Armour (assist) and Marcantonio (goal) worked together to add another goal for the Vikings.
Rocco’s hat trick increased the lead to 5-0.
The final two goals of the game were especially impressive, with contributions coming from Jake Kovell and Parker Hoth. Kovell was able to win an aggressive play from his defender and dribbled to the net while drawing a penalty. Coach Richter gave the penalty shot back to Kovell who was able to score his first goal of the season.
Parker Hoth was another Viking who was able to put his first goal in the net with a beautiful header from a corner kick from Sam Milligan.

Vikings will battle against Keystone Oaks this Saturday at Tony Dorsett Stadium with JV starting at 10:00 and Varsity at 11:30 AM.
