What a Run! 11-Year Olds Suffer First Loss in 7-5 Defeat to Shaler
The tremendous winning streak by 11-year-old All-Stars is finally over.
After winning the first two tournaments this All-Star season and the first two games of the Moon Tournament to go 10-0, the Hopewell 11-year-olds fell this afternoon to Shaler, 7-5.
These two teams played yesterday with Hopewell staging a great comeback after trailing 9-3 but today they weren’t able to repeat that magic.
Shaler jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings and were able to keep the Hopewell bats silenced, outing the Vikings 11-3.
Hopewell tried to make a run as Elliott Mancos 2-run double cut Shaer’s lead to 5-3.
Like the champions that they are, Hopewell didn’t quit and tried to make a comeback in the final inning but came up short.
Wade Enders and Mancos led off the inning with singles and Kruz Krotec drove in Enders with a ground out to cut Shaler’s lead to 7-4. Next up, Shaler committed an error on a groundball by Rhett Rankin, which scored Mancos. Shaler now led 7-5.
Hopewell then had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 out but Shaler got the last out to win the game.
Congratulations to Shaler and to Hopewell.
The 11-year-olds last tournament will be next weekend at Riverside.
