By going 2-0, Hopewell will enter bracket play on Sunday as the No. 1 seed in the tournament.

GAME ONE:

In game one of the day, the Vikings defeated Seneca Valley by the score of 13-0.

In that game, Hopewell piled up 13 hits and were led by Regan Harring and Gannon McNally, who each had 3. Zac Seech had 2 hits, as did Connor Eiler. Leo Yannessa, Jaxson Heppner, Hunter Prenatt and Jace Campbell all registered a hit in game one.

As far as RBI’s, McNally, Eiler and Harring each had 3, Seech had 2 and Prenatt and Heppner collected one.

Despite the lopsided score, the game did go six innings and the Hopewell defense didn’t commit one error.

Hopewell scored 2 in the top of the 1st inning but looked to be in trouble in the bottom half of the inning.

Seneca Valley loaded the bases with 0 outs, but Leo Yannessa went on to strike out the next 3 batters. In fact, Leo struck out 5 of the first batters of the game.

Here was the pitching box score today for Hopewell:

-Jaxson Heppner: 2 innings, 2 hits, 1 strikeout

McCandless actually outhit Hopewell, 6-4, but the Vikings outscored them on the scoreboard. A key for Hopewell was reaching base, eight times via the walk. The four hits today came from McNally, Eiler, Campbell and Prenatt.

After McCandless scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st, Hopewell then scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd.

Campbell, Heppner and Prenatt led off the frame with walks. Then with 1 out, Owen McGovern was hit by a pitch to bring in Campbell. The next batter, Yannessa, was also hit by a pitch, which brought in Heppner. The game was now tied 2-2. Hopewell continued to find a way to score without recording a hit. Following a change at pitcher, McNally walked, which scored Prenatt. Hopewell led 3-2. The final run of the inning was brought in courtesy a ground ball by Seech. After two innings, Hopewell led 4-2.

McCandless tacked on a run in the top of the 3rd and were threatening make it a bigger inning. However, with the bases loaded and 2 outs, Seech struck out a McCandless hitter, which limited the damage. Hopewell still led 4-3.

Hopewell regained that 2-run lead in the bottom of the inning following a 2-out RBI single by Prenatt, which scored Harring. Hopewell led 5-3.

The game ended on that same score because of some outstanding pitching by Hopewell.

The Hopewell coaching staff used 3 pitchers today, who each pitched 2 innings a piece.

–Connor Eiler: 2 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 4 strikeouts
–Zac Seech: 2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 3 strikeouts
–Regan Harring: 2 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 strikeouts

This 10-year-old team returns to action tomorrow, receiving a bye and starting off in the semifinals. First pitch is set for 1 PM in Ambridge.

Good Luck Vikings!
