This week one of our very own children here in Hopewell, Kennedy Pavlisko, had the honor of tossing out the first pitch at a Buccos game to none other than star closing pitcher David Bednar.

Kennedy was provided this opportunity to celebrate her completion of a two year cancer treatment program. She was able to finally ring the bell signifying her completion of the program and remission. She was supported by so many of her friends, family, Pittsburgh, the Buccos and an Organization called The Lending Hearts.

The Lending Hearts Vision is to, “Bring hope and strength to everyone impacted by cancer”.

Lending Hearts mission is “to to provide emotional, social and physical support to those living with cancer, with a special focus on the needs of children and young adults as well as their families and caregivers. Through personal connections and a holistic approach to well-being, we help our Lending Hearts family move forward with resilience and positivity through treatment and remission.” – Lending Hearts Website – https://www.lendinghearts.org/about

David Bednar the Buccos star closing pitcher has always been known to support Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities. The Bednar family is extremely generous and provides support where they can. Just last year the Hopewell Youth Baseball program was donated a signed David Bednar Jersey, Baseball and a Free Pitching Lesson with Andy Bednar, David’s father to raffle off at their annual golf outing to help raise money to support much needed renovations at the Kane Road Complex.

David has been partnering with the Lending Hearts Organization, the Pittsburgh Pirates Charities and the Pavlisko family to help make this day a special one for Kennedy by receiving the opening pitch from Kennedy. Kennedy was well prepared for the big day, her arm was on fire, launching a ball at “David Bednar” speeds to home plate. The Hopewell Youth Softball Organization was in attendance to support Kennedy as well cheering from the stands to celebrate Kennedy’s big day!

HSN had a moment to catchup with Bryan Pavlisko, Kennedy’s dad who wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped them through this time, “We would like to thank so many people for supporting Kennedy through her road to ringing the bell and this incredible experience. Lending Hearts a support group for kids going through cancer treatment and survivorship, Pirates Charities for being so kind to pick Kennedy for an incredible experience, David and Casey Bednar and the entire Bednar family who have been so kind to Kennedy. We are also so incredibly grateful to all of the friends and family that came out to watch her have this incredible day. The Hopewell Girls Softball parents and kids were such a special surprise to us as well. It was also great to see Kennedy’s teachers Ms Bragg and Mrs. Opalanko from Hopewell Elementary. We have such a wonderful community that has helped her through this and we thank everyone for their support and love.”

Congratulations Kennedy, from Hopewell Sports Nation!

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
