HW Varsity Softball drops last nights game at Ellwood City with a final score of HW 3- Ellwood City 9.

Ellwood City is coming off a couple of great games beating the Beaver County Softball Networks “Hot” Team CV last week and now rolling through Hopewell. The Vikings have a few days to recover before Ellwood City rides their recent win back into town on Friday to face off against Hopewell again in back to back games.

Here is how it played out last night with a double by Chloe Nale to start things off after a 6-pitch at-bat put Hopewell Varsity Vikings on the board in the top of the first.

Ellwood City jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Rylee Prestopine doubled, HW committed an error, Amber McQuistion doubled, and Ellie Kalantzis singled, each scoring one run.

A walk by McQuistion extended the bottom of the third inning after Prestopine walked, Sara Schwarz was struck by a pitch, and Keira Rozanski scored after tagging up, each scoring one run. Walks gave the Vikings extra trouble to worry about on the bases last night as they gave up 8 on the night.

In the top of the sixth Chloe Nale homered to center field, scoring two runs for Hopewell and the production would end there for our Vikes.

McQuistion earned the win for Ellwood City. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking one.

Allison Ramaley pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for Hopewell Varsity Vikings. The reliever surrendered four hits and one run while, striking out none and walking none. Allison’s  pitch to strike ratio remains impressive at 66% leading the Vikings in the game. Kara Barkovich took the loss for Hopewell Varsity Vikings. The starting pitcher went one and one-third.

McQuistion drove the middle of the lineup, leading Ellwood City with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-2 on the day.

Number seven hitter, Alexis Beck, showed the depth of Ellwood City’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in four at bats.

Unable to find an answer for the Ellwood City bats we look forward to Fridays game where the Vikings will have another chance at redemption against a visiting Ellwood City.

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
