Team Gigliotti Walks it off in last game!

Published

on

Tonight was the last game of the regular season for Team Gigliotti. For some of the 12u kids it marks a milestone as it’s their last regular season game they will play at Kane Road. Those 12u kids will still have a chance to move up to the Pony league next season but as for their childhood Kane Road days those have come to an end!

If you were to imagine a way to win your last game at Kane Road it would probably have gone down the way this game went tonight for team Gigliotti in walk off fashion!

The game was neck and neck with Team Gigliotti facing off against Team Yesionek as the score was 2-1 after the first and would remain that way until the bottom of the sixth.

Connor Reed lead off for Team Gigliotti giving up two runs on one hit with two walks and three strike outs. Rilynn came in to relieve Connor and threw three innings giving up two hits but zero runs and striking out three batters. Mason Santamaria threw the final inning of scoreless ball for Team Gigliotti with only 14 pitches/9 strikes and one strikeout. The experienced crew of pitchers made the difference in a tight game giving Team Gigliotti time for one more at bat in the bottom of the sixth to come back.

Offensively Wesley Gigliotti was the only runner to score in the bottom of the first on a sac fly from Connor Reed to center field. It would take five more innings before Team Gigliotti’s bats woke up again and ended the game in a dramatic walk off, here’s how the two runs were manufactured:

Austin Gallagher draws a critical walk after a very good at bat going deep into the count. David Johnson was next up to bat and he came up with a huge single to the second baseman. David dug hard to the base and just beat the throw which also scored Austin Gallagher to tie the game. Mason Santamaria came up to bat and lines a hard ground ball to right field moving David Johnson to third base. Now with runners at the corner and two outs it came down to Noah Honess who dug in and watched strike one letting Mason Santamaria advance to second base. The next two pitches were balls and Noah now faced a 2-1 count. On the final pitch of the game the pitch went wild just far enough to allow David Johnson to steal home.

Both Hopewell teams played very well and both sides should be happy with their performances, especially on the mound.

Next up Team Gigliotti plays tomorrow night against CV3 in their first playoff game at Kane Road!

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
