On Saturday morning, the Sheffield Juniors wrapped up their bowling season with the roll-off at Sheffield Lanes.  A roll-off is the bowling league equivalent of the playoffs.
The Sheffield Juniors season was divided into 8-week quarters, with only the four quarter winners were eligible to bowl this week. All roll-off teams bowled three games, with the winner determined by team total pins (including handicap).
Bowling This Week Were:
  • Quarter 1 winner, Team 5: Desmond Sembower, Richie Yeager, Nathan Cronin and Blake Mowry.
  • Quarter 2 winner, Team 1: Sam Bologna, Roman Ritz, Brayden Mowry, and Alex Thompson.
  • Quarter 3 winner, Team 4: Joe Bulebush, Nolan Houy, Thomas Turino, and Max Butter.
  • Quarter 4 winner, Team 2: Ryan Ault, John Leitschaft, Aidan Heppner, and Ayden Gault.
Team 4 jumped out to an early 47-pin lead after game 1 thanks to over average games from Max Butter (183), Nolan Houy (156), Thomas Turino (156). Team 4 totaled 813 pins in game 1, with second place Team 1 at 766 pins.
Team 2 came roaring back with 881 pins in game 2 to take the lead.  Aidan Heppner (233) and John Leitschaft (216) put up big games, both shooting 50 pins over average.  After the second game, Team 2 had a total pinfall of 1,625.  Second place Team 4 trailed by 33 pins with a total pinfall of 1,592. Team 1 dropped to 3rd.
A 196 game from Heppner was not enough to hold off Team 4 in the final game, as over average games from Houy (177) and Turino (152) propelled Team 4 back into the lead and locked up the championship by only 17 pins over Team 2.  Team 4 totaled 808 pins in game 3 for a total pinfall of 2,400 on the day.  Team 2 finished in second place with 2,383 total pins.  Team 1 finished in 3rd with 2,309 pins.  Team 5 had a total pinfall of 2,251 for the day.
Every week, Junior bowlers who roll games of 50 or more pins over their averages are recognized. This week, only two bowlers reached this milestone: Aidan Heppner and John Leitschaft, with each shooting +53 pins in game 2.
Trophies for this week’s 1st and 2nd place teams, as well as other season achievements, will be awarded at the Sheffield Juniors banquet on Saturday, May 10th.

My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
