Katkich’s Key Home Run Powers Hopewell to 18-6 Victory Over Beaver Falls
Hopewell Varsity Vikings delivered a dominant offensive performance on Wednesday, rallying from a four-run deficit to overpower Beaver Falls High School 18-6. The turning point in the game came in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to a clutch three-run home run by senior starting shortstop Bella Katkich. It’s important to note the depth in lineup for these Vikings as all four Seniors have now Homered this season!
Postgame Interview with Bella Katkich
With the Vikings trailing 5-3, Katkich stepped up to the plate with two runners on base. She launched a towering shot to left field, giving Hopewell the momentum shift they needed. The blast not only tied the game but also set the stage for an explosive rally. Following Katkich’s home run, Victoria Mann added an RBI double, bringing the Vikings to a 7-5 lead.
The Vikings continued their offensive onslaught in the third inning, scoring five more runs on three hits. Katkich was once again instrumental, drawing a walk that helped push one run across the plate. Kara Barkovich’s timely single drove in two more, and Tallulah Showrank’s double capped the rally with two more RBIs.
Hopewell didn’t take their foot off the gas in the fourth inning, tacking on another six runs. Alana Covalt’s single brought in two runs, while a series of walks and a wild pitch further extended the lead. By the time the dust settled, Hopewell had scored 18 unanswered runs, never looking back for the win.
In the circle, Allison Ramaley earned the win, pitching 2.2 innings in relief and allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out five. Starter Barkovich, despite facing early adversity, kept Beaver Falls off the scoreboard and Covalt also contributed with solid relief work.
Offensively, the Vikings were led by Katkich and Barkovich, each driving in three runs. Covalt and Barkovich were also instrumental at the plate, combining for six of Hopewell’s ten hits. The Vikings’ patience at the plate resulted in nine walks, with Katkich and Showrank drawing two apiece. Covalt was also active on the basepaths, stealing two bases.
Beaver Falls was led by Faith Taylor, who drove in two runs, and Reina King, who collected two hits. However, the team’s early lead was quickly erased by Hopewell’s explosive offense.
With the win, the Vikings improved their record and will travel to face the Mohawk Area Varsity Warriors on Friday.
