Varsity – Overview

This Spring has proven to be a slow start for Hopewell Baseball at all levels. Hopewell Varsity has started the year 0-4 managing to keep games close with some outstanding pitching performances, David Medich leading the way for the Vikings with a .64 ERA. The Varsity team is struggling in run production support and while the Varsity has had their chances in a couple of those games to capitalize and drive in runs it did not materialize.  Now, it is very early in the season and no need for panic, but it is fair to ask questions and adjust approaches to play to a teams strengths. There is a ton of talent on this Varsity team and all of Hopewell is behind them, ready and willing to support in anyway possible.

In a conversation with Hopewell Varsity Head Coach Morgan Singletary, Hopewell Sports Nation wanted his opinion on the current performance so far and what was needed to shake things up and turn them around for the rest of the season.  “The start of the year hasn’t gone the way we would have like at all levels in the W/L columns, but there is a lot of positives that can be taken away from where we are at. To start, at the Varsity level our pitching has kept us in all except one of our games. Another positive takeaway is that we still have a lot in the tank offensively. We have shown signs of turning it around but haven’t quite gotten there yet. I feel that when we do, we will really start rolling as a team.”  – Morgan Singletary

Bruster's Real Ice Cream

Hopewell does have another thing going for us, we have proven year after year when backed into a corner we find a way to push ourselves to perform whether we enter the playoffs as the 14th seed or by wining our last game in the final inning to qualify and we have no doubt that as the team shakes off the cobb webs and finds their grove they will begin to put together piece together some wins. Junior High – Overview

Very similar to Varsity the Junior High 7th Grade Team has started the season 0-3. A major difference here is that this Junior High team is strictly comprised of 7th graders only competing against kids older then them in almost all cases. The expectation and approach for this team is very different then in the past as highlighted by Morgan Singletary, “At the middle school level we knew there would be struggles playing against a lot of 8th and 9th graders, but they have held their own to this point. From what I hear, they come to games with a lot of energy and really support each other. There is no doubt they will continue to get better as the year goes on and they will be a very tough team come next year when they are the 8th graders.”

Confident words from an experience coach in Singletary who has the vision of challenging the kids at a younger age which will prepare them for future challenges as they both grow and develop as pre/young teenagers. NEXT UP FOR THE JUNIOR HIGH IS AN AWAY MATCHUP AGAINST WEST ALLEGHENY AT 4PM THIS WEDNESDAY!!!

Positive go Forward Message to our Teams!

Despite a slow start it means nothing, its up to you to learn from the losses and challenges and for us as coaches and parents to help you process the losses and turn them into a positive learning moment. Coach Singletary has the mentality that the season is young and all of our teams have the potential to develop and succeed.

Its important to remember that “Every great team faces challenges, but it’s how we respond that defines us. We’ve got the tools, the talent, and the heart to turn this season around. Stay focused, keep working hard, and trust that success is just ahead – we’re in this together, and brighter days are coming!” There is plenty of Season left to show everyone, WE ARE HOPEWELL!
