Hopewell Varsity Vikings Dominate Central Valley Warriors with Five Home Runs in 14-8 Victory
In an exciting offensive showcase, our Hopewell Varsity Vikings emerged victorious over the Central Valley Varsity Warriors with a 14-8 win on Friday. The game was highlighted by a series of impressive home runs, including a standout performance from Senior Kara Barkovich, who crushed a grand slam to help propel her team to an overwhelming lead. Kara had two home runs on the night the second was a solo shot in the top of the seventh inning giving her 5 RBI’s.
Victoria Mann played a pivotal role in the Vikings’ win, launching two home runs and driving in three runs. Her homers came in the sixth and seventh innings, contributing significantly to Hopewell’s commanding 14-run performance.
Mann and Barkovich were not the only offense for Hopewell tonight, there was another Senior Tallulah Showrank who got in on the Home run action taking the Vikings to 5 on the night.
Let’s step back a bit from all the home run news and break down how Hopewell manufactures this 14-8 Victory. The Vikings wasted no time in getting on the board, Mann grounding out to score the first run in the top of the first inning. Tallulah Showrank followed with a double to center field, bringing in another run to give Hopewell an early 2-0 advantage. Central Valley quickly countered in the second inning when Aubrey Grater hit a grand slam to center field, shifting the lead to 5-4 in the Warriors’ favor.
However, Hopewell responded immediately in the top of the third when Showrank homered to center field, tying the game at five. From that point, the Vikings seized control of the game. In the top of the fifth, Allison Ramaley singled to score the go-ahead run, giving Hopewell a 6-5 lead.
The real offensive fireworks came in the sixth and seventh innings as the Vikings erupted for a total of eight runs. In the sixth, Hopewell notched five runs, bolstered by a grand slam from Kara Barkovich, whose clutch hit broke the game open. Tori Mann also added a home run in the inning, continuing her strong performance. Mann who BCSN named a Top player to watch this season is certainly living up to the title so far, not just for her offense but she is showing command defensively as well.
In the seventh, Hopewell didn’t let up, adding three more runs. Alana Covalt tripled in a run, followed by back-to-back solo home runs from Barkovich and Mann, securing a 14-8 lead and ultimately the win.
Mann’s two home runs, Barkovich’s grand slam, and consistent offense throughout the game made a powerful statement. Hopewell’s offense didn’t stop there—Ramaley picked up the win, pitching five solid innings in relief, allowing just one run and four hits while striking out three. Ramaley also turned a double play on the mound snagged a laser hit back up the middle and throwing out a runner off of first base. McKenzie Rizor took the loss for Central Valley, surrendering six runs over five innings.
At the plate, Mann and Showrank each collected three hits, and Barkovich led the way with five RBIs. The Vikings displayed excellent patience at the plate, walking nine times in the game, and stole six bases to keep the Warriors on their heels. Teagan Scully did her job as the last batter in the lineup making the CV pitchers work for strikes her three walks added extra base runners for the top of the order to flex their bats. Know your role and playing as a team will get you farther than a one man show!
Hopewell checked in with Head Coach Ronda Koblek who was happy with the offensive performance tonight coming off a close loss earlier in the week to Deer Lakes, her Vikings were ready to play against the neighboring Central Valley team. “The game started off a bit rough, especially with the rain. The pitchers were having a tough time throwing their best. We usually don’t walk that many batters, and our bats were quiet. We were leaving runners stranded on the bases. But then, something magical happened! The team started to click, and our bats came alive. I knew these girls could hit, and it was just a matter of time before they showed it. A big shoutout to our captains for leading this team and bringing home the win!” – Coach Ronda Koblek
Hopewell will travel next to face the Moon Area Varsity Tigers on Wednesday.
Great job ladies Hopewell is rooting for you, Roll Vikes!
