Hopewell Sports Nation continues to expand its coverage to all corners of Hopewell and surrounding communities to find and shine the spotlight on those performances that might otherwise go unseen. Our commitment to the community will not waiver as we are happy to highlight all positive achievements especially around female athletics which does not usually get the true support and exposure it deserves. In this weeks Feature article HSN has found another Star on the Rise. This time we are shining the light on a Ballerina on the rise, Miss. Bella Fischer!

Bella Fischer is a Freshman at Hopewell High School, she has been captivating audiences with her ballet talent. Starting her journey at just 3 years old, Bella has dedicated herself to perfecting her craft, training six days a week for 3 to 4 hours each day at West Point Ballet in Coraopolis. While ballet remains her primary focus, Bella also embraces a variety of dance styles at her studio, including character, repertoire, conditioning, ballet partnering, and contemporary dance. Bella is also very active in Hopewell as she participates in the Treehaven pool’s swim team in the Summer and is on the lifeguard staff there. She is also involved in the Pathways Church Youth Group. When she gets the chance she loves to go support her younger brother and sisters or her friends’ sport activities. Academically, Bella is excelling and maintaining honor roll grades while keeping up with her busy dance schedule. Her school backpack goes with her to the studio so she can study when there’s a break.

Bella’s commitment to excellence has earned her spots in some of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world. Hopewell Sports Nation sat down with Bella and inquired what it was that keeps her passionate about Ballet, “When I am dancing, nothing else matters. It’s a great feeling to know that you have found what you were born to do.” Since the age of 11, Bella has competed at top-tier events such as the Universal Ballet Competition, Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), and the America Dance/International Competition (ADC/IDC). Her hard work paid off last year when she was one of only 300 students chosen out of over 5,000 to compete in the YAGP 25th Anniversary Competition in New York City. This prestigious event, which culminated with a performance at Lincoln Center, was an unforgettable milestone in Bella’s career.

Throughout her dance journey, Bella has been awarded multiple scholarships to attend ballet summer intensives across the country. Notably, two years ago, she won a fully-paid scholarship to train with the Kansas City Ballet, a testament to her growing talent. This past summer, however, Bella chose to stay local in Hopewell, working as a lifeguard at Treehaven Pool and spending time with her friends, a rare break from her rigorous dance schedule.

Her recent achievements have further solidified her place as an emerging ballet artist. Just two weeks ago, Bella competed in her first year in the senior division (ages 15-20) at the YAGP Pittsburgh Semi-Finals. Despite being the youngest competitor due to her December birthday, she placed in the top 12 out of over 160 entries. Additionally, Bella danced as part of the West Point Ballet Ensemble, where the group earned first place in the competition. In April, she will be competing in the Universal Ballet Competition’s Pittsburgh Semi-Finals, continuing to push herself toward new heights.

Bella’s impressive skill and dedication have also earned her a prestigious honor: she was chosen as a Ballet Ambassador for Tight Spot Dancewear in 2024. This recognition speaks to her growing influence in the ballet world and her ability to inspire other dancers.

This spring, don’t miss the chance to see Bella in action when she performs in West Point Ballet’s production of The Wizard of Oz, March 22-23 at Moon Area High School. Bella will take on the enchanting role of Glinda, The Good Witch of the South, a role she is sure to bring to life with grace and poise. If you are available this is sure to be am amazing performance, come out and support one of our own for an amazing evening presented by West Point Ballet.

Looking ahead, Bella’s goals remain clear: to continue her studies in ballet and audition for major dance companies as she approaches her senior year of high school. With her drive, talent, and ambition, it’s clear that Bella Fischer is one to watch in the world of ballet. Bella is also looking to get back into her child aspirations that she had back in middles school of competing for her local school in Track and Field. Bella did the high jump/long jump and ran track in fifth and sixth grade; however, her rigorous dance schedule does not usually allow for much practice with the school teams; hopefully we can find a way to get her on the track for Hopewell.  Bella is looking to start running again and could possibly join the Wings over Moon program which is a track and field program that goes over the Summer months located in Moon Township.

Bella, it is clear that no matter what you set your mind to you will be successful through hard work and dedication. Remember that everyone here at Hopewell Sports Nation wishes you the best of luck and supports you in your future aspirations.

Keep up the great work, Roll Vikes!

Hello Hopewell! While I am not originally a Hopewell native, it has been my home for over 12 years. My wife and I have three beautiful children that all play Hopewell sports including baseball and softball. My wife and I are both active in coaching our Children's teams. I am a member of the Hopewell Youth Baseball Board of Directors and you will probably see me out at the fields at least a few days a week. Most recently coaching my youngest sons TBALL team.
