Hopewell Sports Nation – Jacob Zupsic Reports – February 7th

Hopewell High School hosts a pep assembly for winter sports teams and a Bocce competition between Best Buddies and the Bocce team. There was also a competition between the Bocce Team and four crowd members, and a competition between all of the winter sports in a race. While we say the teams are competing we all know this is more for fun and bragging rights for the students as everyone had a good time.

It’s activities like these that probably do not get the attention or support they deserve that Hopewell Sports Nation is happy to invest coverage in, the benefits for the students to work together in a safe environment and collaborate with their peers across different sports is exactly the kind of coverage HSN is happy to promote. – Santamaria

Best Buddies Vs. Bocce Team

The competition was close, with a game leading into overtime. The best buddies gave it their best battle. However, the Bocce Team ended up leaving the first competition victorious. This competition promoted inclusivity for everyone as well as allowing students to experience the different aspects of sports.

Bocce Team Vs. The Crowd

Four random crowd members faced off against the Bocce Team, including two of our teachers, Mr. Toney and Mr. Vestal. The crowd enthusiastically chose the Bocce Team as the winner. The Bocce Team didn’t disappoint and emerged victorious once again.

Students accepted the challenge to make it down to the half-court line with their teammates, all while standing on a tablecloth. As they coordinated, they strengthened their teamwork and cooperation skills in an uplifting and positive environment. The gym was filled with excitement as the students worked together to achieve their goals.

Overall

Students, regardless of whether they participated or not, could experience boosting school spirit, encouraging teamwork, boosting morale, recognizing others’ achievements, promoting positive behaviors, and building community skills.

Hear it from one of our own, after experiencing the Pep rally, Milena Harding said, ” I think that Pep rally boosts school spirit because it gives students a place to demonstrate their respective sports and get excited for the upcoming sporting events. I also feel it better unifies the student morale and brings the student body closer together. It is very uplifting to see students so engaged and happy with the pep rally going on.”
