Coaches Comments

Head Coach Terri Gazda expressed her satisfaction with the teams performance, noting, “The silver division did well, and I was glad to see our girls competing today.” Assistant Coach Jessica Irwin also reflected on the competition, commenting, “Overall, they did well. There was a lot of competition today, and our girls were fighting for the three medals offered out of 54 girls who were at the competition. Our gymnasts had clean bar routines today.”

Coach Irwin also highlighted the teams upcoming preparation, stating, “The girls have two weeks to prepare for the PA Classic State Championship. The team has qualified for this event, which will be held on Friday, February 21st, with individual competitions on Saturday, February 22nd.”

Athletes Perspective

Stella Vallecorsa shared her personal thoughts on the competition: “The WPIAL competition was very fun to compete in. This was my first year at WPIAL’s because I was injured last year. Competing, I was a little nervous, however, I am proud of how far I have come since last year and all of the things I have accomplished since then. I just had to keep reminding myself to stay in a positive mindset and understand that going into the events with confidence was key. Although some difficult things happened today, I remembered that one bad thing does not fully define the entire meet.”

Additional Recognition

Hopewell Sports Nation would also like to extend congratulations to Lia Eberhardt for her outstanding performance in the Bronze Championship Meet held on Thursday, February 6th. Lia earned 1st place on the vault with an impressive score of 9.05, placed 3rd on the floor with a 7.95, scored 6.55 on bars, and 6.90 on beam. Her total all-around score of 30.45 earned her 4th place in the competition. Congratulations, Lia, on your achievements!

With the PA Classic State Championship just around the corner, the Hopewell gymnastics team will continue to train hard and prepare for the next big competition.
