Hopewell Township – PA, February 6th

Hopewell Lady Vikings fell just short of winning against Central Valley by 6 points. Despite this, head coach Jeff Homziak felt pleased with the effort the girls displayed in the second half of the game.

First Quarter:

Starting the game strong, Richburg scored the first two points. Following up shortly after, Spang, Sundy, and Boyd all successfully attempted their foul shots.

A crowd-shocking moment when Boyd stole the ball from Central Valley, passed it to Sundy, and then scored!

At halftime, the score was Vikings at 18 and Central Valley at 32.

Second Quarter:

Vikings returned the fire in this round, starting with Boyd getting a layup. Spang continued to make her foul shots this quarter. Sundy stole the ball from Central Valley, passing it to Boyd, who then managed to sneak in a layup. The defense was looking good, and Sundy was able to make a 3-pointer. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Sundy makes the crowd go wild with her buzzer-beater.

Finishing off strong, Richburg stole the ball from Central Valley, Sundy ran the ball, and Blosnick shot for a 2-pointer. Sundy and Richburg both got 3-pointers, making the crowd wonder how close the game was going to be. Boyd finished the round with a 2-pointer.

” The Second half of the game the girls battled back, first half of the game girls could not put the ball into the basket and that put us behind. However, the girls brought it back in the second half proving they are capable of competing against people outside of the section.” Said Jeff Homziak.

After the game was over, Hopewell Sports Nation was able to obtain an interview from Caylee Sundy, and she said “Although the first quarter was a little shaky, we managed to bring it back in the second quarter and was closely trailing behind Central Valley. We missed a few layups and free throws, however, the girls playing tactics got better in the second round.”

Final Score:

Hopewell Vikings: 47 & Central Valley: 53

JV Game Shoutouts:

In addition, making a welcoming return from an injury, McDowell participated in her first game since the injury. Congratulations on getting back out there!

Smetana and McDowell both scored 2 3-pointers in the game.

Head Varsity Coach Jeff Homziak said, “The girls took advantage of their opportunities during the fast break. The defense and rebounding were good overall, which helped the team gain some points.”

Final Score:

Hopewell Vikings: 28 & Central Valley: 22
