HW Bowling at St. Vincent Bearcat Challenge
The Hopewell Vikings Bowling Team attended the 5thannual Saint Vincent College Bearcat Challenge at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg, PA on Saturday. The Bearcat Challenge is a high school tournament put on by the Saint Vincent College Women’s Bowling team that features the top high school teams in the WPIBL bowling on incredibly challenging college level lane conditions. The tournament featured 2 traditional games followed by a one 5-game Baker set. In Baker games, each team combines to bowl one total team game. Each player takes turns bowling in a sequence until the game is complete.
The Hopewell men came into the event ranked 13/19 of the attending WPIBL teams through 4 games of the WPIBL season. The Vikings finished 11/19 and were led by senior captain Daniel Earley shooting an individual 334 series. Sophomore Ayden Gault added a 303 series to the effort. For context, the top 5 bowlers were named to the all-tournament team and Earley missed out by 50 pins.
The Viking women came into the tournament ranked 8/9 of the attending teams and finished exactly 8th place. The women were led by sophomore Annabeth Sembower shooting a 265 series. Senior captain Jenna Willy contributed a 219 series to the team. Sembower missed out on the all-tournament team by 60 pins as a sophomore.
The Vikings will continue their WPIBL season this week on Wednesday against Nazareth Prep at Paradise Island Bowl and on Friday at Sheffield Lanes where they’ll host West Allegheny.
