8-Year-Olds Open Hopewell Tournament with Big Win Over New Brighton

Hopewell- A great start for our 8-year-old All-Star team as they open up the Hopewell Tournament with a 16-4 win over New Brighton.

The Hopewell team pounded out 25 hits, while holding New Brighton to 12. Leading the way for Hopewell were Brody Benson with four, Jonah Honess, Aaron Ackerman, Bennett Beron and Deacon Ankrom all with 3. Vikings with 2 hits included Michael Kurta, Tommy Carver, Tristyn Trkulija and Jordan Peck.

Hopewell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a triple to right by Trkulija, which scored Ackerman and Honess. Beron then doubled in Trkulija and Carver singled in Beron.

Hopewell led 4-0 after one.

In the bottom of the second, more extra base hits as Honess tripled in Benson to extend the lead to 5-1. Ackerman then followed with a double to left field, which brought in Honess.

Hopewell led 6-1 after two.

New Brighton scored two in the bottom of the third but Hopewell resounded with six in the top of the fourth to ice the game.

The scoring started with an RBI single by Ackerman, followed by a 2-run RBI double by Trkulija, Hopewell now led 9-3. Later in the inning, Carver doubled in Trkulija and Beron.

Hopewell led 12-3 after four.

Hopewell ended the game in the bottom of the 5th with a run rule. Honess doubled to left field, scoring 3 runners (Archie Kostrick, Benson and Peck).

Final Score: Hopewell 16 New Brighton 4.
