I’m not sure how the girls are doing so well in this weather as the temperatures peak into the 90’s, just sitting in the heat to watch the games this week is draining.

The Hopewell 10U Gold Team came out ready to play despite the heat, in part thanks to the Hopewell 8u players who helped filling in for 4 players on vacation for this team, the young girls did extremely well.

The girls that helped fill the gaps and did fantastic were:

  1. Cece Mutkus – played short stop, hit a double in the fourth inning
  2. Teagan Jacobs – left center, had some key stops in the outfield holding runners to only one base
  3. Reagan Morrissey – right center, hit a single and was hit by a pitch
  4. Kendal Kaminski – left field, hit a single and scored a run

After going down 4-0 after two innings it was not looking good for Hopewell. This CV – Hughes Team had their number all season long beating them decisively in two matchups during the regular season. Paisley Hughes and Reagan Granata pitched well in the first half of the game to keep Hopewell from scoring. In the top of the third CV added to their lead scoring one as Madison Santamaria came in to pitch in relief of Aubrey Majors. CV came out swinging but was held to just one run in the third after Madison strikes out two batters and Aurie Levelle made a spectacular line drive catch to end the inning.

With CV’s pitching on cruise control this was probably the last opportunity for Hopewell to do some damage and get back in the game as they were coming back around to the top of their order and ready to face a new pitcher for CV. Reagan Morrissey singled to get on base but was forced out at second on an infield fly ball hit by Aubrey Majors. Aurie Levelle was up next and singled to third base on an infield hit. With runners on first and second Madison Santamaria launched a long fly ball to center field hitting the fence and scoring two runs. Hopewell was now on the board with a score of 5-2, CV leading.

Lacey Snouffer was up next and was hit by the pitch now putting runners on the corners after Madison steals third. Kendall Kaminski reached first on an infield single to load the bases. Madison Marchitelli reaches first on a pop fly single scoring Madison from third, the bases still loaded, the score is now 5-3. May Taylor singled to left scoring two more runs in the inning making the score after 3 full innings tied 5-5.

As the sun began to set into the fourth inning, Madison Santamaria came back in to pitch and struck out the side for Hopewell.  For the first time in the game Hopewell now had a chance to take a lead if they could come out swinging. No outs, Cece Mutkus doubles on a ground ball to left field, and then she steals third base. Reagan Morrissey took a hard pitch off the wrist now placing runners at the corners as Aubrey Majors hits a ball to the fence scoring one run. Hopewell now has their first lead of the game 6-5. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth Madison Santamaria came back up to the plate and drove a ball to left field scoring two making it 8-5.

In the final inning Hopewell would give up one more run but manages to close out the inning taking the win and eliminating a strong CV – Hughes Team from the Playoffs.

Although going 2-0 in pool play Hopewell enters bracket play as the 7th seed and up Next for Hopewell is their first bracket playoff game Tuesday vs. Southside Black, location TBD.

DONT FORGET TO WATCH THE ENTIRE GAME ON OUR MEDIA PARTNERS SITE, BEAVER COUNTY SOFTBALL NETWORK. Bill Littler was nice enough to come out and cover this matchup.
