The Hopewell Vikings Bowling team wrapped up the calendar year with a mixed outcome at Sheffield Lanes against the West Allegheny Indians.
The men surged to their best score yet, tallying an impressive 2,500 pins and securing a resounding 7-0 victory. However, the women faced a formidable West Allegheny team and suffered a challenging 0-7 defeat.
For the men’s team, standout performances marked a memorable day. Junior team anchor Daniel Earley achieved a significant milestone, notching the first 600 series of his career, a stellar 200-234-204 for a total of 638. Contributing to the victory, Junior Colin Roessler posted his personal best of 496, aiding the Vikings in their decisive 7-0 win. With a solid 4-1 record, the men currently hold second place in their section at the season’s midpoint.
Freshman Annabeth Sembower led the charge for the women’s team, commanding the leaderboard with her own career-high series of 461. Her standout scores of 172-139-150 outpaced all scorers in all games. Additionally, Junior Desiree Shepherd added on her personal best series. The women’s team, now standing at 1-4 for the year, looks forward to a healthier 2024, having had limited opportunities to bowl together in matches this season.
In Junior Varsity action, the Vikings triumphed 7-0, buoyed by newcomer Junior Jack Meyer’s 390 series, claiming the high series for the match. Junior Zach Hughes contributed a 120 game performance to the effort.
Looking ahead, the Vikings set their sights on the new year, gearing up for a rematch with Quaker Valley at Fair Oaks Lanes on January 3rd.
